NPS

Completed work

Glen Echo safety improvements

The NPS made improvements based on comments we recieved during the Glen Echo Park - Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment. Some of these included:

  • Installing new signs
  • Painting brighter/clearer lane lines and striping
  • Reconfiguring lanes
  • Trimming vegetation close to the road

Clara Barton Parkway is managed by the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The NPS partnered with the Federal Highway Administration to complete this work.

Cabin John Access Road repaving and marking

As part of this project, the NPS made improvements recommended in the Glen Echo Park - Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment. This includes improvements at the intersection of Ericsson Road and the Cabin John Access Road where we updated or added new:

  • Striping and signage.

  • Don’t Block The Box (DBTB) pavement striping.

  • Painted stop bars at Ericsson Road.

These changes address comments from our neighbors and partners at Cabin John Gardens Inc.and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.

Restriping between Chain Bridge Parking Area and C&O Canal Lock 5

The NPS to re-striped the road with a clearly marked solid double yellow line. The NPS is making this change to reinforce that, even during the morning and evening rush-hours, there is two way traffic on the Clara Barton Parkway in this area.

The only area where the traffic pattern changes from Monday to Friday in the mornings and evenings is near the intersection of Canal Road, Chain Bridge, and the Clara Barton Parkway. In this area, we are remarking the road with a discontinuous solid double yellow line because both of these lanes travel east (inbound) from 6:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. from Monday to Friday to reduce queuing onto Canal Road.
